This Giving Tuesday, those looking for a good cause to support may want to turn their sights to Guardians of Rescue. An airman has reached out to the rescue organization, pleading for help to get his cat relocated from the Middle East back to his home in America as his deployment comes to a close. The community can help make his wishes come true with the rescue of Stan the cat, which comes just as people are looking for ways to celebrate National Cat Lovers Month.

"We first met this cat when he hung around the barracks and I started feeding him,” explains Staff Sergeant Madd, a U.S. Air Force member deployed in the Middle East. “He’s great with people, plays well, and I have been taking care of him. We’ve all gotten pretty close to him, and my family is excited for Stan to become the newest member if we can get him to safety in the U.S.”

For help with his final mission on deployment, Staff Sgt. Madd has reached out to Guardians of Rescue. One of the things the group is known for is helping military members relocate the pets they rescued while on deployment. During deployment, the animals they rescue bring them a lot of comfort when they are so far from home. They form a strong bond and can’t fathom the idea of leaving them behind in risky conditions when it’s time for them to head back to the U.S.

Stan was skinny and dirty and would hang around the mess hall eating scraps. He would also seek shelter trying to get relief from the 120-degree temperatures. This was until Staff Sgt. Madd slowly made friends with him. He began giving the cat water and food, and soon he could say “Stan,” and he would come running. The military members were amazed.

While the two of them began growing closer together, Staff Sgt. Madd was also sending pictures and videos of Stan back home. Once he heard his deployment was over, he was heartbroken at the thought of leaving Stan behind. Making getting him relocated to the U.S. his last mission, he has reached out to Guardians of Rescue for assistance with the relocation process.

"We are calling on all cat lovers to help this cute little guy make his way back to the Midwest, where he can live out his life in happiness and safety,” explains Robert Misseri, president and co-founder of Guardians of Rescue. “We are always happy to help our military members with pet rescues, but we can’t do it without the support of the community.”
